Although today I wanted a free day I ended up going all over
the island, and it turned out to be grate. I went to the special education
school in Victoria to shadow a different volunteer. I was impressed with the
amount of work and organization that her school had. They had all different levels
of kids with disabilities. Today was a free day kind of the kids due to the
sports. It was a short visit but it was very educational for me to. When I was
done there I took the bus 45min back into St. Georges and walked to the museum.
One of the other PCV’s works their, he showed me some of the things that they
had in the museum and explained that someone had donated post cards of Grenada
that went a hundred years back. I thought that was so amazing looking at what
the island used to look like and what it looks like now. They are working on an exhibit basted around the post cards as we speak. I had a grate time
talking to him; we also walked across the street to a art gallery that was really
nice. It had all local art, paintings drawings and some ceramics. I explained one
of the glazing proses (Raku) to the man who worked there and the PVC. It was exiting
to start using all of the art information I have stored in my head about art. The owner
of the gallery gave me the contact information of the local woman whose the ceramics. I
think I might use her as a resource, I don’t know how yet but I’m going to
email here. I am sad to say that the PCV that I shadowed today will be leaving back to the US after a 3year long term in grenada, I think that he was an incredible asset to the museum and I hope that I maybe can help out their in some of my free time. One of the Things that he did was teaching a little bit of archeology, and creating a structured outline for field trips. It shows the teachers where some of the historical sights are and comes with handouts for the students to use before during and after their trip. Then I started my long walk home. I took a small nap before my host came home and fed me dinner. I think thats all for the night so I hope everyone is doing well. Love you and thank you for reading my blog.
