Day #216 Food log

Wednesday 8/28/13

I had another grate day at school, we had a teachers meeting that went over a lot of good information, changes and things we can do to improve the school and children's well being. I think we have like 65 kids this semester. Its exiting because I got to watch home the kids got to move up a level and see some of the changes that they have made. Next semester, that starts Monday I am hopping to give you an inside look into some of the kids, as a request and grate idea from my grandma. Love you grandma and grandpa!!!!!! When I got home I had lunch and then went upstairs to my Peace Core friends. She teaches a guitar class to some of the girls from that camp so I got to watch her teach them. Also when they where at camp they came up with an incredible song, the three of them sang it for the talent show and as a good buy to the campers. It gives me goose bumps and I would get it from ITunes if it was offered their, incredible voices and talent. It was also one of their birthdays so Steph made from scratch brownies, soooooo good. It was nice to see some of the girls. She took them to one of the places that she works yesterday, its a home for people with disabilities, the girls liked it. They said some parts where overwhelming, others sad but good over all. Its amazing to here that coming from young teen girls. They said they would go back. Grate for teaching prepossess, exposer and awareness of people with disabilities that they can talk to their families, friends and others to to lessen the stigmas. I had a grate day and I continued painting. So on another side note one of the response volunteers went home last week and she left me a nutrition journal, so I started to use that. Its supposed to help you become contuse of what your eating, what your body wants and needs. So I started filling that out and that lead me to start a food log. So many little things that I can change to make myself heather and loose waight. BANANAS!!!! Oh how I love bananas but I read that they are bad for you to eat because of all the sugar and the riper they get the more sugar they produce, sad day in my book if you as me. ohh well all find another funny looking fruit here to make my favorite. Also people dont know how much you can do with a coconut, my god. Coconut water, jelly, oil, shavings, milk, flower WOW!!!! So I am going to start using coconut oil instead of butter. Sorry I just went on a food rant. Any ways off to bed but ya I had a good day.

Love you all miss you, come and see me

Day # 215 cough in a rain storm

Tuesday 8/27/13

I spent a lot of my day in the computer room at school, I was so exited to see that we had a touch screen computer donated to the school so the kids with autism and visual impairments can use the equipment easer. It came with a key board that is like 3x the normal size. The teachers are getting all set up and my school is holding interviews for care givers who will help change the kids if needed, and a PE teacher so we might have some new teachers soon. The one day that I didn't bring  my umbrella I got pored on, but thats ok because its so hot here that I loved walking home in the rain. Its been a long time since I have walked, played and had wet hair from the rain. It was a good day, when I got home it was time to get ready for Bachata class, ohh how I love my dance teacher. We have been working on basic steps and perfecting Bachata before we move on to little tricks and shoe off moves. Its so much fun. It was a late night so when I got home I ate dinner and watched a movie before bed.

Day # 214 Teacher planing week

Monday 6/26/13

Today it was hard to get up in some ways because I have been sleeping in my hole brake but exiting to get up at the same time. This week at my school and lots of others its a week to set up teachers classrooms and plan for the semester. Because I don't have a classroom I just planed, and looked up some projects that I can do with my kids using the recyclable stuff I have been gathering, the art supplies that I so greatly appreciate getting from my grandma that will make a huge difference in how this session goes and some paint swatches that she also got for me. This semester the funding for art is even less than when I first for here, so I need to start doing fundraisers and get some of my own work into galleries and selling so I can get all of the stuff I need. The bottle that I painted yesterday I believe is going to the U.S. ChargĂ© of Grenada. I am very happy with it and am hopping it gets some "ohhhh I like that where can I get one". Who knows, and the U.S Charge has been so amazing with the Peace Corps in Grenada that he deserves something special. After work I headed home and took a small nap before dance class, we worked on foot lose agin, love the way that dance routine is coming along. Then it was off to bed.

Day # 213 Backed A Cake

Sunday

Ok so it was just a box cake that I made but it got me in a baking mood. Its hard to bake here because it uses a lot of gas. I think I am going to make raisin bread next, I love it for breakfast.  After I got up and moving I decided to paint another bottle, this one is nutmegs, the island of Grenada and the Peace corps symbol. It took me most of the day. I didn't do a hole lot in the evening, because Monday I start work agin. So I started a new series on net flix and called it a night.

Day # 212 Curtain for the bear cave

Saturday

Today I didn't do a hole lot, I went to the store. I know it seams like I go to the store a lot and I do thats because my fridge is so so so small, everything in Grenada is smaller, my sink, my fridge. So when I get stuff its much smaller portions, also I cook much much more here I never realized how much shopping cooking takes and we don't get things in bloke and we don't have a Costco. Nothing comes in mass quantity. Potatoes come four to a bag, I think the only thing you can buy a lot of at once is meat. Any ways thats why I go to the store so much. When I got home I unloaded everything and then decided to put up a sheet to keep the light off my bed. So now its like a bear cave. I love to sleep in pitch black with no sound. This is grate for when I am tiered and need to rest especially when the walls in my apartment are paper thin.

Day # 211 puppy check up

Friday 8/23/13

This morning I woke up with Penut curled up next to me, I got up and made him breakfast and then gave him a good bath. Latter today I took him to the vets office to give him his last shots for the year and his de-wormer. Heart worms and others are very common here so every month he's going to get a little pill to protect him from that. He was so sleepy after his visit to the vets, but we still had a long walk to the dog sitters. He fell a sleep just as soon as we got their. When I was done saying goodbye for this week I decided to go up the road and see my friend (Check them as they would say in Grenada) . They were selling Lambi waters. Lambi is that big conch shell thing, its like a big sea snail but people love it down here, it good I like it with some spice. That was fun. When I got home and had a snack before I settled in for the night.

Day # 210 My toe

Thursday 8/22/13

Today I went and picked up my little Penut. When I got him home I was so exited he crawled right up into my lap and gave me lots of kisses. He had changed so much in the past few days, no peeing all over and not teething so much. It was nice to have him home but sad knowing that I would have to take him home the next evening. Any ways I fed him a big meal and then I got read for dance class. When I got their we started practicing the foot loose line dance and I jammed my toe doing one of the steps, man did that hurt. It was hard to finish practice. When I got home I rested my toe and then went to bed with Penut by my side. I love it when he sleeps with me.

Day # 209 Allie's Taco Salad

Wednesday 8/21/13

I noticed that my dat has been a day off in all of my recent post so this post date should be correct now. So today was rather quiet not a lot happened. I did however make what I decided to call an Allie Taco Salad. Its nothing to fancy I just made a quesadillia and added salsa to it. Then I made a nice big salad toped with salsa and ground taco beef on the side. I thought it was really good. Their was no class in Gren Vill so I stayed in and relaxed watched some movies and called it a night. School is going to start up soon so I need to get all of the rest that I can and start looking for new projects for the kids.

Fish Cakes

Step 1- Shred up some fish
step 2- Mix up some flower, seasoning, water, onions, garlic, (pepper to make it spicy if you wish)
Step3- Add the fish
Step 4- Heat up some oil in a frying pan
Step 5- Use a spoon and drop in small spoonfuls of the fish batter
Step 6- Take them out and place on paper towels
Step 7- Eat them with some kind of dressing spicy, creamy, or make a sandwich with them.

Yes a lot of food here is based around frying, but you can back some of the stuff as an alternative ***

Day # 208 Cold shower

Tuesday 8/18/13

Nothing exiting happened today really I went and payed my bills and hung out (limed) around town. When I got home I went to get in the shower and realized that hot water was not working I was sad, but for the moment it was ok because I was so hot from walking around town. Eventually I realized that this was going to be a problem at night and in the morning I hate cold showers I feel so much less clean and the conditioner doesn't come out of my hair so it gets all greasy. Ok sorry I'm just ranting not. I didn't do much other than clean some more. I also decided that I was going to use the glue my grandma gave me to glue somethings back together. The apartment that I live in is old so some tiles came up, some cabinet panels pealed off so I glued them. I need to come up with some kind of decoration for my place, its rather mixed matched and plane. Nothing on the walls. Well that summed up my day :) I can wait for school to get started again!!!!!!

Stewed chicken

Step one- chop up everything you want to put in your stewed chicken! I use (Garlic, potatoes or sweet potatoes, onions, carrots and some times dumplings) You can add anything to it that you want.

Step two- Prepare your meat in a separate bowl !! Make some slits in the chicken so the seasoning and juices can go inside.  Add the powdered seasonings that you like and liquid ( water or bbq sauce, anything will work) Not to much just enough so everything becomes a coating. Also add the onions and garlic to the chicken seasoning bowl.

Step three- In a pot put some butter and or oil and melt it down. Once that is hot add some sugar. I would say maybe four TBS. You are going to caramelize the sugar. I would say that their should be enough of it so coat the chicken.

Step four- Add the chicken... BE CARFUL THE JUCIES WILL JUMP OUT!!!!!

Step five- After the chicken is slightly covered in the sugar add some water. This is so that the chicken can cook. Add enough to just cover the tops of the chicken. In Grenada color is everything when it comes to a stewed chicken. This is a key part of the process.

Step six- Once the chicken is almost cooked you can start adding all of your other stuff.

Step seven- Test your sauce. Its going to seem bland in the beginning so you can add some more bbq sauce, hot sauce, salt, seasoning ( what ever you like) Then start to simmer down the pot, it should begin to thicken up and taste how you want it. Its about done at this point.

Step eight- after all of that you still have a bit of work, yes you can eat it just like that but I love mine over pasta or rice. So that parts up to you.

Hope you all enjoy this dish and find my instructions understandable. Once you have mastered a stewed chicken, then curry roti and other local dishes from Grenada becomes easer to prepare. I have found a love in cooking that I never had before, its awesome.

Day 207 Foot loose

Monday 8/17/13

Today I spent most of the day washing cloths and the I decided to go shopping for food. I want to share some of the american dishes with the local people. So I got some simple but fun things. I had to go to the store near the college to get them because the local stores don't have much american stuff, I like that it helps me eat healthier and culturally. Any was when I got home I unload my stuff and headed up to dance class.  I was so exited to find out that we are going to be working on a swing routine based around foot loose. It was such a fun and energetic night for class.

Day # 206 Taking my puppy to the sitter

Saturday 8/16/13

Today was a sad day I had to pack up all of my puppies stuff and take him to the place that he will be living for possibly the next two years. Man when I started packing all of his stuff I didn't realize how soiled he is. I made him so many toys. Any ways when I got to her house he got to meet is new busy. She has an older dog and two cats. Thank goodness he is still young enough that he likes other dogs and cats. She has a very nice house with a big open field in the back that he can go and run in with all of his new friends.

Day #205 getting back to normal

Friday 8/15/13

Today was nice I started getting back into my routine. I went into town and ran around for a bit. When I got home I cooked dinner and started to get ready to go dancing.  It was nice to get dressed up and go dancing. The group had a good time it was from 8pm-10:30pm and then we went to wall street to get some food. I got fish and chips, I really have been getting into fish here! I missed latin dance the last few weeks.

Fish Seasoning

Step one- Make sure your fish is cleaned out, I'm sure it will be if you get it from the store.
Step two- chop up your onions, and garlic.
Step three- add any seasoning powder to the fish, add onions and garlic to it, add some liquid seasoning as well. We use what they call green seasoning down here, it comes in a bottle. I think you can find it in most 99cent stores or in the mexican section of the grocery store. I would put some of the mixture in side the fish if its a hole fish.
Step five- mix it all up and decide what your going to eat now or latter.
Step six- you can back your fish or coat them with flower and fry them.

Day # 204 half recovered

Thursday 8/14/13

Another day of sleep, but I did get up and start cleaning. I also started to watch Orange is the new black   on Netflix and its a good series so far. I decided to start putting recipes on my blog from local Grenadine dishes. So something small to start off with is what you can do with black bananas so they don't go to wait!

Banana Pancakes

Step 1-moosh up your bananas
Step 2- add artificial sweetener or sugar
Step 3- add a bit of flower so it becomes like a past not to much more bananas than flower!!!!!
Step 4- bake or fry spoonfuls
Step 5- Eat them they are good

:)

Day # 203 rest all day

Wednesday 8/13/13

I think that was one of the most lazy day that I have had since I have been here, but my body needed that. I slept al day, and rarely got up for anything. I have never been out and about for 5 days straight going to partys staying out till all hours, missing  sleep, not eating proper meals and getting dehydrated.

Day # 202 Fancy Mas

Tuesday 8/12/12

The most exiting day so far in carnival. When I woke up it was time to eat breakfast and start putting my costume on, and makeup. It was so exiting. When I was all ready I headed up stairs to take a group photo with the others. The group played in two different bands. We all walked down to the carnage. When we got where we all needed to be we had glitter put all over us. each band has different costumes  and they are devised by section when you are judged. So we got into are sections and started to dance down the road. We had three judging points along the way and in between we could mix up. It was a lot of fun. we had a music truck and a truck with food and drinks on it for us. I didn't know we would have a truck with food and drinks so that was nice. It was a long day of dancing in the streets judging and tacking pictures with people who lined the streets. I think we got done about 4pm. We all headed up and then those who where going down for last lap as they cal it got ready to go. I went down with a few friends. Last lap is nothing to exiting people are out with their monday night mas, fancy mas, and some jab jab outfits eating and hanging out with friends. We met up with other people and walked around for a bit and then we all went home to rest.

Day # 201 Monday night has

Monday 8/11/13

well after Jab Jab I took a long nap all the way into the night. When I got up it was time to start and get ready for monday night mass. I chose to play with the biggest band Lime witch is a phone company down here that sponsors several evens all year long. Any ways we got ready about 11pm. You have to get a package to play in each band so mine had a t-shirt, funny wig, light up stick, flashing light spiked and neckless. When  looked down on the street from my house it was blinking with thousands of lights. We had to walk down the street to meet up with are band. On the way we stopped by a close beach and took a quick bath to cool off, it was really nice and it helped with what came next. When we found are truck we joined a huge group of people walking down the street it was so packed and hot but amazing to see all of the people dancing with their lights. It was so much fun. After a white we got in front of the truck to get away from the crowed for a breather. It was rather late when I stated to get hungry so me and the group started to head back home. It was a good night but not my favorite part of carnival.

Day # 200 Chocolate Jab Jab with Real Jab

Sunday 8/10/13

Rise and shine its 3:30am.... I put on my outfit and headed for the door. My dance teacher who lives up the street came with me. The city was not that busy yet but their were more people that usual in the streets. We got a good workout in walking to the truck that we would be on. I was so lucky that the PE teacher at the school I work at has an uncle who runs Real Jab so I got to go on the truck and help pass out chocolate and drinks. When we got to the truck we both got on and watched all of the people walking around and getting into their groups. I think that their is 10-20 groups of different people who have colors that they paint themselves with. The oil jabs cover themselves in oil and have horns and chains. One man brought a pig head and others pushed around a coffin. I think the oil jabs are the darkest. But we also have blue, gold, red, UFO green, white and the new addition was chocolate just to name a few. The music was blaring and people where dancing all around the streets. I think for my first year watching and dancing from the truck was a good idea. Next year if all goes right all be playing UFO green. I had a grate time with my friends on the truck. soon the sun came up and about 6am we started to move into the heart of town that took all morning, the trucks move so slow because of all the people in the streets. When I reached right in front of the carnage I got off the truck and headed up the hill to my house.

Day # 199 White in the moonlight

Saturday 8/10/13

Most of the posts for carnival are going to start with I slept the beginning of the day to recover from the night before. I got home at 5am. So when I got up and ate something I cant remember what. It was about 6pm when I was all ready to go. We had to take a bus to Gren Vill because the Peace corps group was all going to White in the moonlight so we all meet up together. It was a nice get together all of us where together. At about 8pm I decided to go and lay down in Megan's bed. I got a few hours of sleep before I woke up. Everyone was playing games and starting to get ready to go.  White in the moonlight is a big concert in the middle of the country. Everyone wares white and when it rains it becomes a big mud pit. people play in the mud. Its a huge concert, so much fun smooched between hundreds of people and dancing to the latest soca songs. Oh man was it a fun night. We left about 5:30am am so e missed the crowed being hosed down with a fire hose and  huge mud pit being created. Thank goodness we did leave though because we ran into some of are friends so we ended up getting a ride home into town so that saved me some money and I was much more comfortable. It was about 7:30a when I got home and about 8am when I finally got into bed.

I woke up some time in the evening because one of the peace corps girls came down to stay by me. When she got their we set up her bed and cooked a wonderful brown down. We sat and talked for a bit and then me and her both passed out around 9pm.

Day # 198 Soca Monarch

Friday 8/9/13

Wow its finally here carnival has launched and its time for soca monarch tonight. St. Georges was a mad house this week and now the real events are starting to happen so its going to be interesting. Any ways today I got my tickets for soca monarch, that like a big concert where all of the local artists come together and sing their songs. It should be lots of fun with people, music and food. This morning I slept in and then got up to go and get my computer thank goodness I just needed to have the mouse cleaned. But when I got home I noticed that the memory card reader on the computer was not working, man it never fails if an electrical problem can happen IT HAPPENS!!!!! After that disappointing news I popped my chicken enchiladas into the over and started the refried beens with cheese and sour cream. I made them for my friend, I think its so much fun to make him things that he has never had before. He liked the enchilada but not the beens. Sour cream is not a big thing down here in the caribbean. I don't know what I should make him next? After that it was time to get ready for the concert.

Soca Monarch Concert

That was one of the best concerts I have ever been to!!! Thousands of people jumping and waving bandanas in the air. The placed a stage in the center of the national stadium and blocked off around the edges with booths. So we caught the middle of what they call Grovy and thats the lighter version of soca and then after that at about 12am Soca Monarch started. Their was 16 different local artists. Each one had back up dancers and tried to be as creative as possible. One drove a car up on the stage, one had a huge silver plain come up on the stage and he came out of it. I wish I would have brought my camera but I didn't know what it was going to be like, but next year I will be bringing it so you can all see ow cool it is. One of the Peace Corps girls was a back up dancer for 3 of the big profferers. The concert went until about 5am and then we got to here the winners where. I had a lot of fun and when I got home I hit the pillow and I was out like a light.

Day # 197 Monday night mas package

Thursday 8/8/13

Today I sent a lot of the day running around and grabbing things for carnival, the only exiting thing that I got was my monday night mass package. That included a t-shirt, glow sticks, crazy wig, water bottle, and bandana. Each group for monday night mass has its own outfits/ packages. The main phone companies have the biggest bands consisting of maybe 2000 people. I also drooped my computer off because the mouse was not working. On my way home I stopped by my host mothers and she fed me lunch, I mis her cooking sometimes. when I got home I made enchiladas and put them in the fridge for Friday. I also cut one of my shirts. It was a good night.

Day # 196 chocolate jab jab shirt

Wednesday 8/7/13

It was a slow day today other than the fact that I went into town today to get for carnival and some food. When I got home I washed some cloths and started to make pumpkin sup with dumplings. It turned out good. When i was done with all of that i went dow to gran ance to meet one of my friends, she is helping with one of the jab jab bands . I had to get my t shirt. I found out that all be on the truck helping pass out the chocolate. Yes this year instead of using oil or paint to rub all over their body's  they are going to use chocolate. Don't worry I will indeed put some pictures up after.  Then I worked some more on my friends UFO helmet and my bottles before bed. The helmet is taking a lot of time with all of the different little things.

Day #195 fifteen bottles

Tuesday 8/6/13

I woke up this morning ready to go and paint some more bottles at the Grenada council
For he disabled. When I got their it was very quiet not that many people where their but I decided to work with a different group of people. We all painted the white under coat of the bottles and then the real fun began. I showed them how to do the background colors of the bottles. It took all do but in the end we got fifteen bottles completed with the background colors. This will be a pod start so that when the other young man comes back he can draw and paint the pictures on top. When I got home I started working on painting my friends helmet for carnival. He's playing with the green UFO group so I decided to paint his helmet with green aliens. It looks cool. I will put up some pictures when I am all done with it. I can't believe that we are that close to carnival. Friday night is the beginning of a very long exiting five days. Anyways that took a lot of my night and I painted the under coats to some of my bottles. I al close to having enough to show the art museum in town. Hopefully they will take my work and I will start to have an income for my art supply's at my school.

Day # 194 Another day in the country

Monday 8/5/13

Today I got invited to a friends family bbq at the beach. It was in St. Davids parish. It was on a beach that I have never been to, small but nice. The water was so refreshing not to cold ether. We spent most of the day their just relaxing and talking. When it was time to pack up I got into the back of my friends family's pick up truck and headed home. I was really tiered after being in the sun all day so I made dinner and headed for bed.

Day # 193 Cow Pen

Sunday 8/4/13

I got lucky because their was an event in Gren Vill so I was abel to catch a bus. Normally on sundays no busses run around the island just to the nearest little city Gran Ance. So  I waited at the bus terminal for a little bit and then it finally came. Then I had to wait for it to fill but so that tok a bit of time. I don't take many trips out to the country but one of the Peace Corps girls lives out their so I decided to make a trip out to se here for the first time. It was nice to see where she lived. When I got their I dropped off my stuff and we walked down to here host families yearly party. It was nice to meet them. They had a tun of food as well. When were done their we went down into town for the drum festival. I was kind of that but we had missed to drums and their was not much going on after so we decided to go up to the Cow Pen. Its a local bar and dance club. Because its so close to carnival people are in a going out mood so it was supper packed, I would say a good 500 people or more. It was a late night but we had fun dancing and meeting some new people.

Day # 192 Puppy bug bits

Saturday 8/3/13

Today I slet in after my late night at Jab Jab Fest. I did some work around the house  and some research on puppy bug bites. My little guy is getting eaten alive by the mosquitoes in the house. I found out online that deet is not good for dogs but I can use citronella. So I am going to get hime some oil for his skin at night. Then I called it a night really early so i could catch up on my sleep.

Day # 191 Jab Jab Fest

Friday 8/2/13

A lot happened today. I stared off by getting up and making some more deviled eggs and getting some stuff together for the beach. It was several volunteers birthdays so we decided to have a cook out on the beach. I met up with some of the other volunteers in town for yummmmyyy ice cream. I got banana fudge and coffee. Then we all hoped on a bus and headed to the beach. I even decided to bring the puppy. We spent a good bit of time thier eating and swimming. At about 5pm I headed home to get ready to go dancing. Dancing was a nice stress reliever after that week of camp I really enjoyed myself. Then I went home agin and got ready for JabJab Fest. Basically some of the local artists came out to preform at a concert. Most of the songs are about the Jab Jabs so thats why they call it JabJab fest. Jab Jabs get all oiled up, put chains on, horns and dance around it kind of cool to see the different costumes that  people put together. I am so exited for that day to come next week, so I can play. That was a late night but I got a bus home and went to bed.

Day # 190 Quarterly Training makeup day

Thursday 8/1/13

Today we had are make up training with are counterparts. We worked on a six month plan for are jobs. It was nice to kind of make an outline of ideas and such. We also worked on expectations from both the counterparts and volunteers. It was a long training day but well worth the time. When that was over I went home and relaxed. Nothing all that exiting happened that evening, the normal cooking and such before bed.

Day # 189 Good to be home

Wednesday 7/31/13

It was such a nice feeling to sleep in my own bed!!! But it was about to be a long day. I had to take my puppy Penut to the vets to get the rest of his shots and worm pills. That took most of the day. When I got back I relaxed and then went shopping for food the house had almost no food in it. I fell a sleep really early!!!!

Day # 188 Good buy day

Tuesday 7/30/13

Day # 8 at camp

Today was a sad day for a lot of the girls. We ate breakfast and then headed up to the ceremony. The ceremony was short and sweet. All of the girls got certificates and their families came to see them. When that was over we all got the girls ready to go home. We rented two busses. So many of the girls where emotional about the camp being over and they wanted it to go another week. I went with one of the busses to drop the girls off and when they where all home safe and sound I got drooped off at home. I was so tiered but I decided to go to my work out class and cook myself a nice dinner before I went to bed.

Day # 187 Project Planning Day

Monday 7/29/13

Day # 7 of camp

Ohhh my gosh it was so hard to get up this morning but it was worth it we had a zumba class with drums instead of yoga. After that it was off to breakfast and then  Project planning. Camp GLOW has only got going last year, but some of the girls went back to their schools and created GLOW clubs. So today is based around how the girls can brain storm. All of the girls got broken into groups and had to come up a name for their group, what it would be about, what kind of stuff they needed. Then we had to pretend to be representatives from different companies. We went around asking them questions. It helped them with public speaking and organizing. When that was all over it was time for cleaning, packing, showers and then dinner before the talent show. The girls where so amazing singing, dancing, playing the guitar and drums. They were awesome. They didn't go to bed until like 2am I had to move my bed so I could get some sleep.

Day # 186 Team Building Day

Sunday 7/28/13

Day # 6 of Camp

It was so nice that we got to sleep in today because we had another heavy day ahead of us. We started off with talking about abuse and what types their are. That was interesting because their are so many different kinds and it opened the eyes for the girls. We then demonstrated the 16 steps to putting on a condom correctly, different types of birth controls and condoms (Men and womans). When we where done with thats we had a condom relays using cucumbers. For some of the girls that was the first time putting one on and for other it just made sure they where using them correctly. They had a grate time. After that it was time for fun in the sun. We made a slip and slide on the grass, tie died shirts, and listened to music before the bon fire. It was a grate way to end the night. The girls did not want to go to bed after that though. So it was a supper late night.

Day # 185 Healthy Relationships Day

Saturday 7/26/13

Day # 5 of camp

Today was one of the most important sessions that we had at camp. We had a two hour workshop on what healthy relationships should be and we talked to the girls about what they feel un healthy relationships are. Some of them gave personal examples. It was definitely a hard session to listen to and be a part of. When we were done with that one we moved on to STI and HIV/AIDS. The girls had so many good questions. Because that was such a hard subject we tried to end the day on a happy fun note. We did what you call dream boarding. Thats when you take pictures and create a collage and decorate it. They loved that. it was a long day packed with lot of information for the girls.

Day # 184 Communication Day

Friday 7/26/13

Day 4 of camp

This morning was yoga before we had are resume writing class. It was a really helpful session. We talked about what should go on a resume and what should not. How to get references and how you should change your resume for each individual job. When we where done the girls had to fill out a templet so we could go over it together. After that we did a little bit on public speaking, eye contact and body language. I think this was a grate ways for the girls to understand who to talk to people. When that was over we had lunch and then started getting ready for the fashion show. All of the girls put makeup on and each one had to be a good example of what to were to an interview or a bad example. It was really fun. All of the counselors went down the catwalk as well. It was a fun day, but another late night.
